Assalamualaikum.
*Sigh* This semester's subject, Psychology of Learning... I feel very very guilty to Dr Lihanna as I really really can't finish the first assignment she gave, which is the memorizing of Surah Yaasin and Surah Al-Mulk. There are several reasons to it, but I will not make these reasons as excuses for not completing the assignment.
I'm taking 6 Psychology core subjects this semester, and because of that I am so caught up with the assignments till me myself can't breath, as I am drown in it. Besides, I have other commitments for clubs and programs that I involved before this semester start. And most of this is due to my own lacking in time management and laziness.
I really don't know how to say my sorry to Dr. Lihanna for this one. I feel so bad, truly. The due date for this assignment supposedly on 3rd December, which is last week. And this week, on 12th December suppose to be the last date of the reflection on the progress of the memorization. I don't know, I just feel that my responsibility on this assignment is still there. Untill when the final exam that will start 2 weeks from now. *Sigh*
Oh, only Allah knows how bad I feel right now as a student. And I really really regret that I took 6 subjects this semester. Truthfully, it make my life so miserable. Yes, I admit that I am the problem here, and I am not blaming to anyone that I fail to finish up my assignment.
Luckily, the Maze Assignment is in group. Although the progress started quite a bit late, but alhamdulillah, all is well.

Assalamualaikum w.b.t
Dear readers, it has been 2 weeks after the last post. Yes, I know. Dr Lihanna always keep reminding us to update the blog, as this blog also part of the assignment and work. And I manage to find some time to post something here. My progress on the memorization of Surah Yaasin is going ok. But, I seems to find one other problem.
As I mentioned before, my 1st problem is I need to remember the 1st word of each verse, then I can simply continue to memorize and read it. With this came another problem which is some words are repeated in the verses, and sometimes I find it confusing to continue the verse after that similar word. In other words, I use another verse to continue with a similar word but in different context.
Well, so far, it has been a good time with the memorization. And the due date is next week!! FTW!! Frankly speaking, I haven't started on Surah Al-Mulk yet! Dr Lihanna, I AM SORRY!! Yeah, it's all my fault and I'm guilty for every aspect of it. I have been busy with other things going on, assignments, programs, etc. -.-
Anyway, from now on, I'll try to post at least once a day. InsyaAllah. That's all for now. I am at the mosque right now, waiting for Maghrib while memorizing Surah Yaasin.!! Few verses to go! :D

Assalamualaikum.
Whoa! My last post was on 10th October! Today is 8th November already! It has been 1 month I haven't post anything for this blog. Dr. Lihanna, I'm really sorry. I didn't post anything doesn't mean that the memorization is not in progress. Hehe :) Well, that is not an excuse. Frankly speaking, I've been so caught up with other assignments that need immediate attention.
InsyaAllah, I will make use this holiday to memorize Surah Yaasin. As I mentioned before, I can memorize a little bit of the surah, but I need to build some kind of chain that help me to remember the first word of each verse. I'll use the same mushaf, or the same book everyday. In this book, there are 21 pages of Surah Yaasin, so, I'm going to memorize at least 4 pages a day. :)
Okay, that's all for now. I'm also focusing on the 2nd assignment that was given by Dr. Lihanna, which I called Maze Assignment, quite an interesting one, I think. Assalamualaikum

Chapter 3: The Initiative

Assalamualaikum.
Great Monday morning indeed! *Sarcasm* Today, I took the initiative to try to memorize Surah Yaasin. As we all know, Surah Yaasin probably the most common surah recited because it is being recite almost every Thursday night. I think it is easier to memorize Surah Yaasin first because I already familiar with the verses inside it.
After a few moment try to memorize it, I realize that I have to know what word is at the beginning of the verse. If I know, then I can continue it. It's like a cue for me. I think I have to improve on that part. I have to remember and memorize the first word of each verse so that I can memorize the surah quickly. That's all for today. ;)
p/s: I know this is a pretty quick post.

Assalamualaikum.
The second post for today! It seems that I am rushing to get this blog full with words. Haha! Anyway, Dr Lihanna asked us about four weeks ago to find out various ways or techniques to memorize Al-Quran. Job is successfully done and I found these techniques from muslimmatters.org, which I don't remember the full url to that link/web. This is the 13 steps provided by Yasir Qadhi and I rephrase or summarize his points.
- Sincerity
- Consistency - Not skip even one day. At least 3 lines a day, or 5 would be more ideal.
- Timing - Right after Fajr for the spiritual breakfast.
- Atmosphere - Ideal place would be a secluded area and a quite place.
- Familiarity - Same time, same place and using the same mushaf.
- Repetition - repetitive repetition and listening.
- Memorize with meaning - Read the translation first and then match it with the Arabic word.
- Surround with recitation - Listen to what you about to memorize.
- Find recitation buddy - To listen and correct your recitation.
- Recite daily what you memorize in your prayers.
- Try to revise the verses you remember in previous 7 days.
- Do not jump around. Stick to the order of the surah.
- Three chunks - Start from the back, the easiest surah. *30,29,28 *28-Surah Al-Kahfi *Surah Al-Kahfi-Al-Baqarah
These are techniques I found from the website muslimmatters.org. I would like to apologize to the author if what I wrote is a misunderstanding one. InsyaAllah, it's not. From all these techniques, Dr Lihanna then instructed us to relate it to some of the psychological terms regarding memory. Some of them are encoding specificity, maintenance rehearsal, and chunking.
For the assignment, I have yet to choose my technique of memorization. But, from this, I may of thinking to use one or two technique(s) to help me to memorize the Surahs. Okay, that's all from me. Assalamualaikum

Chapter 1: Reborn on Nine-Ten-Eleven

Assalamualaikum.
Today (9 October 2011) or nicely or awesomely written as Nine-Ten-Eleven, is the day I once again start blogging after 2 years I have lost the sense of blogging. Well, the purpose of this blog is to fulfill my assessment for my psychology subject, Psychology of Learning. As Dr. Lihanna instructed all of us to make a blog, so my interest of blogging is reborn, some sort of like that.
The class project that all of us in Dr Lihanna's class have to do is that we have to memorize 2 surahs from Al-Quran which are Yaasin and Al-Mulk or Al-Waqiah. At first, I was shock that the assignment is a little bit different or can I say unique from any other subjects I take this semester. Which also I am gladly to receive because I think it's not that hard. I mean, I don't have to do all the group meetings, research on journals or articles and other heavy workloads.
Truthfully, since last week (or last two weeks, I don't remember) when she given us the assignment, I haven't start any memorizing on any verse yet. InsyaAllah, after this week, I will spend some of my time to try to memorize the surahs. Anyway, it is for my benefit too, duniawi and ukhrawi, InsyaAllah. The first weeks of semester is quite hectic one. Program here and there, assignments keep increasing in number. I'm still trying to adapt with all this situations. Despite all that, I hope I can manage my time carefully to memorize those surahs.
With that I end my first post on this blog. Assalamualaikum.
